For anyone who no longer remembers what I've done, who is briefly glancing by, who was crazy interested enough to friend me or who just wants to point and laugh, I've compiled a Master List of my stuffses on the internet. If I've missed something, please let me know :) Please to be respecting of the ratings! And er… if you've friended me and I haven't responded, could you please remind me? I manage not to 'notice' things that are stapled to my forehead and have the attention span of a rabid chipmunk.

Alternate Reality Challenge Part 4- [Twelfth Night PG-13/M]
For those just tuning in, this is part of my challenge to pimp crossovers/alternate realities. Give me any two fandoms and I will write a crossover (see here) or see the alternate reality challenge here.

    For Prpl Pen

    Fandom: William Shakespeare- Twelfth Night

    Title: Making Apples

Rating/Warnings: PG-13/M. For wacky Adult Meta goodness. Implied slash, femme-slash and more double-entendre than anyone would ever want to think about. Viola/Olivia and blink-and-you'll-miss-it Orsino/Sebastian.

Genre: Crack. Meta. Character Study. Bible/Austen/Shakespeare fusion.

    Word Count: ~730

Summary: Love doesn't grow on trees like apples in Eden - it's something you have to make. And you must use your imagination too. - Joyce Cary

Notes for prpl_pen: Before you kill me, I *loved* this request and this would be why Naphy did not go on in English Lit. –Guiltily waves in the direction of The Wm.'s grave where he's undoubtedly busy turning over- So you are one of the very few people who could have convinced me to write sonnets and iambic again (not to mention Shakespearean Meta Meta). And why has it been so long since I last wrote femme-slash? Hope this works for you :) Er… in case it wasn't confusing enough to start with, this may not be in linear order, as in it may be working backwards to the beginning. –Shuffles guiltily-

Author's Notes: So the split is that I cut the comedy of errors- Antonio actually finds Sebastian being threatened and Sir Toby and Olivia come across Viola er… 'Cesario', where Olivia saves her from the beratement. I always thought it wouldn't have taken much more effort on Olivia's part to topple Viola's resistance and this is my take on the aftermath and the discovery… As for the text separation- Twelfth Night is a five act play, Shakespeare forgive me. All credits in footnotes.

How to Prove Chewbacca and Ghengis Khan are Actually Compatible in Six Easy Steps
Wrote 90% of this in August before becoming distracted by real-life and computer death. Found part of it on back-up disk. Decided rest of the world should suffer too. And, for probably the first time ever, I have to put a rating on the rant- at least PG-13 for the final paragraph. In fact, you should probably not read the final paragraph anyways. And if slash or fish offend you, this is not a good essay to read.

I like canon pairings. Well, most canon pairings. And since I’m not stupid or suicidal enough to start talking about which canon pairings I don’t like, I’ll try and get to the point. Although I like canon pairings and enjoy reading about them, the vast, vast majority of the stories I write involve alternate pairings. In my case, it’s an extension of my obsession with alternate realities- when I write, the road not traveled fascinates me. And I particularly love thinking about why two people may or may not be involved and what it would take to change that. Because I am so going to become that old lady with forty cats, the room full of Harlequins and the telephoto lens.

For similar reasons, I enjoy reading alternate pairings. That is when they don’t make me want to scoop out my eyes with a fork made of hand-carved plot bunny femur. In the interests of attempting to keep my eyeballs in my head, I have composed the following list of things that I try to force myself to keep track of when writing alternate pairings. Not that I’m necessarily the expert or always successful in my attempts, but damn it all, alternate pairings do have more things to take into account than canon pairings and if this list helps anybody else half as much as it helps me, I’ll consider it worth my eyeballs.

I call it the “Alternate Pairing Reality Check” or

“How to Prove Chewbacca and Ghengis Khan are Actually Compatible in Six Easy Steps”.Collapse )

Crossover Challenge Part 10- [Inuyasha X Pride and Prejudice PG-13/R]
For those just tuning in, this is part of my challenge to pimp crossovers/alternate realities. Give me any two fandoms and I will write a crossover (see here) or see the alternate reality challenge here.

    For Dawn-sama

Fandoms: Inuyasha and Pride and Prejudice

    Title: Dogs of War

Rating: PG-13/R. Implications of stat rape and childhood prostitution.

    Genre: Drama/Horror. Dark fic.

    Word Count: ~630

Summary: In retaliation for his role in Ramsgate, Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam purchase George Wickham a place in not the militia, but the active regiments. A man with Wickham's tastes let loose in the confusion and horror of the continental battles? Ah well, justice comes in many forms…

Notes for dawnsama: Both an AR and a crossover. I rock like a rocking thing :) Er… this probably was not at all what you expected, was it Dawn? To be honest, my brain now needs lots and lots of bleach.

Definitions: The military order Havoc! was a signal given to the English military forces in the Middle Ages to direct the soldiery (in Shakespeare's parlance 'the dogs of war') to pillage and chaos. It was not a gentle command- this was giving the soldiery complete leeway to commit any kind of excess they chose.

Author's Notes: Yes, I did make someone currently dead live again. Although this should not be a radical concept in Inuyasha ;) I'm going to handwave it away the normal way those sorts of things happen according to Takahashi (which means yes- I do have an insanely long backstory for this and no- I am never going to write it out). Plus it means I get to allude to one of my favourite Inuyasha crack!pairings. All in all, this story requires much more knowledge of Inuyasha than Pride and Prejudice. WARNING- this is not a nice story.

    For Quirkyslayer

Fandoms: Harry Potter and Veronica Mars

    Title: Learning Its Nature

    Rating: PG.

    Genre: Drama/Horror.

    Word Count: ~700

Summary: Lilies of the field toil not, nor do they spin. But do they learn? Sybill Trelawney. Lilly Kane. Sybill might actually be a True Seer. Too bad it's not going to make any difference.

Notes for paynesgrey: I really didn't want to do the obvious sorts of VM/HP crosses, so I've been tossing this idea around in my head for awhile. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't write it until suddenly I realized that, as many problems as I have with Duncan Kane, he was absolutely necessary for this story. And this strange oneshot was born…

Author's Notes: Lilies are symbols of both innocence (purity) and death. Duncan means dark-skinned warrior. As far as I can tell, Lilly Kane is canonically four years younger than the Harry Potter cast- please correct me if I'm wrong! Urp... almost forgot- very vague HBP spoilers.

Title: How Hatake Kakashi Met a Mysterious and Violent End

    Rating: PG.

    Genre: Crack.

Word Count: 100 word drabble. On the nose.

    Summary: Bad puppy. Bad.

    Fandom: Rurouni Kenshin

Title: The Unbearable Lightness of Fleeing

    Rating: PG

    Genre: Drama. Character Study. Misao.

    Word Count: ~1300

Summary: Kenshin's good at every kind of running. Misao's good at being Misao. Poor Kenshin.

Notes for numisma: I do love Misao. By all rights, this should be a much longer story, but consider it a series of vignettes to sketch what became a very long and fully realized plot in my head. Damn you.

Author's Notes: Kaoru was killed during the encounter with Enishi. With Kaoru truly dead, how would Kenshin ever recover? Who would be stubborn enough to deal with that much brooding? And when will Naphy stop making terrible puns in her titles?

    Fandom: Lord of the Rings

    Title: Behold the Flowing Years

    Rating: PG

    Genre: Angst. Introspective. Poetic Navel-Gazing.

    Word Count: ~420

    Summary: Eowyn does not regret.

Notes for animefreak42: It's really funny, but as soon as you gave me the prompt, my first thought was how it would affect Eowyn rather than Aragorn. I hope that you enjoy my very abbreviated take on that!

Author's Notes: So the side branch here is that Arwen died at some point during the War, for reasons unknown. My immediate thought on this was that they probably wouldn’t inform Aragorn until it was over, because the last thing they would need would be already ambivalent emo-'King of Men' becoming razor blade-friendly emo-'King of Men' in the middle of the war for Middle Earth. But what would he do once he found out? And what would his long-term thoughts on it be? Strangely, I immediately thought of Eowyn. And the flashfic was born…

    For MsCongeniality

    Fandom: Witch Hunter Robin

    Title: Keeping Balance

    Rating: PG

    Genre: Drama. Introspective. Dark.

    Word Count: ~1050

Summary: Man always travels along precipices. His truest obligation is to keep his balance. -Pope John Paul II

Notes for mscongeniality: I had originally planned for a very, very different story but somehow Robin grabbed me, shook me and this is what happened. Your original draft had a lot more Amon and a very different ending- sorry :(

Author's Notes: Just as a side note, the difference in the way people refer to one another *is* deliberate. And now to describe the time-branch. Just prior to the beginning of the series Amon's former partner Kate was murdered and Robin was brought in as her replacement. Kate had unidentified powers and went rogue, thus classifying her as a Witch. However it was also implied that she had been betraying the STN-J and had been found out at about the same time her powers manifested. So for this take, I've flipped the situation. Amon is no longer a seed, but a witch and Robin Sena is brought in as Kate's new partner. First order of business: track down the rogue former hunter.

    Title: As Played by Masters

Rating: PG. Vague spoilers for HBP.

    Genre: Drama/Dialogue. Dark.

    Word Count: ~620

Summary: Humour an old man, Doctor. What is there to fear from a game of lightning chess?

Notes for coyotegoth: Although I'm not quite sure this is what you were looking for, this is Serious!Fourth and Serious!Dumbledore doing what they do best- play the game. What if 'Rock Falls. Everybody Dies.'?
In the interest of getting my writing brain going again, I'd like to pose a challenge. Some of you may have been around long to remember this (AKA the infamous Naphy crossover challenge). As most of you probably know by now, my other fanfiction crusade is the promotion of alternate realities (see this, this and this). For those who have happily managed to avoid my rants on this until now, I define an Alternate Reality as a story where, taking into consideration all known canon and events in a universe, a deliberate change is made at some point in the universe and the consequences of that change are explored.

So did you ever wonder what would happen if a large rock fell and took out Voldemort and the Potters in one fell swoop? What if a large rock landed on Frodo? On Aslan?

Boy do I have a bunny-bargain for you! I will happily write a short alternate reality based on any fandom I'm remotely familiar with, based on any alternate reality prompt you want to give. I've even included a set of potential generic prompts ;) Bring on the rocks!

    Grr. Argh. Computer. Die.
I am Naphy, Destroyer of Computers. Which isn’t nearly as cool as Lurg, Destroyer of Worlds or Bunny, Eater of Plots. But seriously I’ve managed to kill not one, not two, but three computers over the last four months (well technically I completely killed the same computer twice and then killed a brand new laptop so that it couldn’t even be resurrected). In the process I managed to lose most of four years worth of writing, data and programs because what backup I did have has gone missing or been destroyed by the dying computers. On a fanfiction front, this means that everything that wasn’t online is basically gone. I can’t even think about the original writing because it makes me want to cry. On a “Butterfly Effect” front that means about sixty pages of writing for the last chapters, although I still have a skeleton outline and I’d been meaning to re-write the epilogue anyways.

When combined with my lack of internet access that has only recently been temporarily fixed, I have to honestly say I have no idea when or even if I am going to be able to catch up with everything I’m behind on. I’m going to try and prioritize a few major projects. I may also have random one shots to keep my sanity going through my crazy work situation, but beyond that I’m not sure what I can do right now. I don’t know if I can safely promise to catch up on LJ comments or reviews, although I will try. Anyone who asks what this means in terms of updates will be fed to my alter-ego- The Incredibly Grumpy Bunny of the Blindingly Obvious. Thanks to those of you who have been waiting so patiently for such a long time- I will try and get things done. I’m just a little overwhelmed right now.

Basically this was just a wave hello, but for the pleasure of the few of you who are familiar with the fandom, I’m including the opening snip from a rather long one-shot I’m working on to stave off (more) insanity. I’ve got most of the bits and pieces done, but not having written in the fandom before I’m biting nails a little bit on characterization and tone. Will probably post the rest later after some heavy editing. Anybody who is actually familiar with the fandom and wouldn’t mind dealing with my massive paranoia would win undying love and possibly cookies. Or bunnies. Or bunnies shaped like cookies.

An Alternate Reality in Which I am Alive and Have Internet Access
-Sigh- I am so far behind now that I will never catch up. Between work, my personal life and the complete lack of non-work related internet, I have had no ability to get anything done that I had hoped to. I will do my best to start working through the things that need to get done, but I still have limited to no internet access, so I have no guarantees how long it will take. If you need to get ahold of me, I will do my level best to check and respond to this post- I've been having problems with the e-mail account. I will also be very, very slowly trying to catch up on older posts. It will get done- just may take a few years :)

As a gesture of peace- I've had this written up for awhile now, but just never had the opportunity to post. Hopefully someone else will get some enjoyment out of the stories that I've enjoyed reading :) And, if people don't care how long it takes me to get to it, I might initiate an AR challenge similar to what I did with the crossover challenge a very long time ago. Let me know if you're interested... Curious as to what I'm babbling about? Read on :)

Alive! And Bunnies. Oh and a Rant.
-Waves- Yes! I'm alive! It's been a very, very awful few months, but I thought that I should probably post something to let everyone know that I'm still kicking. My computer died rather recently, so my internet is extremely limited right now, but I'm going to try and spend a bit more time on LJ now that my professional and personal lives are in slightly less flux.

-Sigh- And to answer those nasty death threat e-mails (how does one reach through the internets and chop someone up with a chainsaw, anyways?):

    1) Yes. I am working on the next chap of Butterfly.

    2) No. I won't be posting it until I'm satisfied that I've included all the clues, it fits coherently with the ending and I've gotten the characterizations to a level that makes me satisfied and my personal life gives me enough time to do these things.

But to distract everyone in the meantime:

I posted this on FFRants as a parody of some of the most common rants I saw. Many people took it Very Seriously, but that just provoked some thoughtful discussion. And I got to tell someone that it helped with the accuracy of writing someone with a penis if you wore a pancake on your head. I love the internets.

The Brief Rant of Summation and World Harmony. And Bunnies.

This is written very affectionately by a very sick Naphy to gently run through my summation of my favourite FFRants fandom rants, in the hopes of saving everyone a whole lot of trouble. It is a Truth Universally Acknowledged that a Single Bunny in Possession of a Good Plot...
Someone, I can unfortunately no longer remember who, asked me how I went about plotting an Alternate Reality/Time Branch Shift story and what made it different than any other type of fanfiction? Silly person. Now everyone’s going to be forced to see my crazy outlining skills. For those of you who are curious, this is my basic set-up for the original skeleton outline for an Alternate Reality. This is an incomplete events/consequences outline for a Pride and Prejudice alt that’s been eating my brain…

Love Me, Fear Me and I Will be Your Plot BunnyCollapse )

As a side note, if anyone knows of a good, relatively straightforward reference (most of the ones I’ve found make Naphy’s head hurt) for military life and military society in Regency England (and that would be army as opposed to navy life) I would be forever in their debt. Normally I’d just ask my brother, but it turns out he’s not into ‘frockcoats and furloughs’. Middle Ages Elitist. –Pouts-

    Inuyasha - Idée Fixe - [Kouga/Kagome] - R [M]
Well, since this isn't going to be any good for the contest, I figured that I'd let everyone else have a chance to see it anyways. I'd forgotten that this was my second favourite Inuyasha OTP and that all my plot bunnies for it were kind of monstrous ;) And yes, I used the 'M' word. No mate marks though.

    Title: Idée Fixe
Rating: M (R) For language, vague suggestive situations and implied violence.
    Genre: Angst/Romance
    Word Count: 1900
Pairing: Kouga --> Kagome. Kouga/Kagome. Sort of.
Summary: He’d never wanted to live forever anyways.
Notes: The story is non-linear, but the time jumps should be obvious. I hope.

Idée fixe (literally “fixed idea”) loosely translates as ‘an obsession’ in French. Musically speaking, it is a short musical theme/phrase that has some symbolic importance (i.e. the love of the main characters in an opera) and appears throughout a longer musical work generally both to tie the work together and to highlight differences between the parts.

And yes, I am capable of writing about healthy relationships. This just wouldn’t be one of them.
